Our Heritage

The Singh Family Story

In 1988, the Singh family opened the doors to New Delhi Indian Restaurant with a simple promise: to share the authentic flavors of their homeland with warmth and generosity.

What began as a small 40-seat restaurant on Chestnut Street quickly became a beloved neighborhood institution. Word spread about the rich, aromatic curries, the tandoori chicken that arrived sizzling from the clay oven, and especially about a dish that would become legendary in Philadelphia — our Butter Chicken.

Three and a half decades later, the Singh family still runs every aspect of the restaurant. The recipes remain unchanged. The ingredients are still sourced with the same care. And every guest is still greeted like family.

“Our Butter Chicken has been on the menu since the very first day. It is more than a dish — it is the soul of our restaurant.”
— The Singh Family

We are proud to be Philadelphia's longest-running Indian restaurant. There is none running since before us. We are even prouder of the generations of families who have celebrated birthdays, engagements, graduations, and quiet weeknight dinners with us.

Whether you're joining us for the city's most popular daily buffet or ordering our legendary Butter Chicken for delivery, you are part of a story that began in 1988 and continues with every plate that leaves our kitchen.
